Snooker is a cue sport that originated in the latter half of the 19th century, evolving from various cue sports such as English Billiards. The game is typically played on a rectangular table covered with a green cloth, which is divided into pockets situated at each of the four corners and in the middle of each long side.
The objective of snooker is to score more points than your opponent by potting the balls in a specific order. The game is played with 21 colored balls and a cue ball. The colored balls are worth different points, with red balls each valued at one point, and colored balls (yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, black) carrying higher values. The colors must be potted in a specific sequence after a red ball has been pocketed.
Players take turns to strike the cue ball with the aim of potting balls into the pockets. A player continues their turn as long as they keep potting balls. The player with the highest number of points at the end of a predetermined number of frames or rounds wins the game.
Snooker is known for its strategic and precise gameplay, requiring skill in potting balls, positioning the cue ball, and thinking several shots ahead. It is a popular and widely televised sport, with professional tournaments held worldwide, the most prestigious being the World Snooker Championship. The game has gained a significant following and is enjoyed by both casual players and enthusiasts alike.
