Weather-wise, December to early February is considered the best time to go. But this is also peak season especially year end is local school holidays and festive season like Christmas and New Year celebration. If you would like to avoid crowd and don’t mind braving a little rain, suggesting June to August are good time to go too.

We went in late June and it didn’t rain once. It was nice and sunny everyday, although it could be a bit too hot in the afternoon time (between 12pm to 3pm). Always apply on sunscreen and bring a handy fan if hot sun and sweat isn’t things you like.

Travelling in Penang

If you already in Malaysia, most international visitors to Penang will be arriving by plane. There are several ways to get to your hotel in George Town which is about 30-40 minutes from Penang International Airport. You can check the Penang Airport website for more information on transfers.

BY BUS: For budget traveller, cheapest way to get to George Town from the airport is by bus. Rapid Penang Bus lines 401, 401A, and 401E operate between the airport and George Town. The fare is around RM 3 each way per person so be sure to have small bills with you since the driver can’t give you change. Buses run every 30 minutes and take about an hour to get you to the main bus terminals at KOMTAR mall or the Penang jetty. From there you can either take a taxi or Grab, or walk to your hotel.
